I worked with Gary at Santa Rosa's Information Mgmt. Dept. He was our manager for several years. I will remember him as a very caring, fun loving person. I respected and loved him as a dear friend, co-worker & manager.

Gary always talked to us about his family. Especially Erik. How he loved his son and his wife Shirley very much. If you ever need anything just write to me at this e-mail address.

My sympathy and regards go out to his entire family and friends. As I know we all will miss him dearly.

Sincerely, Leslie

He was a Great Boss and a Good Friend. His stories of going home to be with his family up north were always amusing. He said some called it hunting, to him it was a time to be with family and to enjoy the outdoors. He will be missed by those of us who had the opportunity to work with him as well as those of us who had the opportunity to be his friends.

We are very saddened and shocked over Gary going home to be with the Lord. Please let us know if there is anything at all we can do for you. There aren't any words to relieve the pain but only time can ease it.
I always enjoyed the boy's hockey games with you and Gary. He was such a great guy and I never felt uncomfortable around him. A true gentleman and down to earth. What Jesus called the salt of the earth... a good citizen, husband, father and working man who did what was right in this life.
We can never know why God took Gary home but later on when we go home, we'll probably be able to see why very clearly.
Our family has always been very impressed by Erik who is such a good, kind dependable young gentleman himself, and he's exactly what every parent would want in a son. I know that Gary was very proud of Erik and will continue to be pleased as Erik goes the road and does the job that the Lord has in mind for him. We must see the goodness of Gary and Shirley reflected in this fine son.
I lost my dad when I was 15 and now at age 52, I pray sometimes and ask the Lord to tell my dad hello and thank you, that we are doing fine and we'll see him later on down the road.
I don't think any bad news gets into Heaven but I don't see anything in the Bible or any reason that they don't get good news reports in that wonderful place. I'm sorry for writing so much and I hope and pray that you be comforted by the Lord at this tragic time.
Chelsea says that she loves you and wishes as we do that we could be there but we are not able to.
Love you both and please do call on us if we can help in any way! We will keep the two of you and all of Gary's family and friends in our prayers.

Gary, it's been a long time since we all met but it went by in an instant. How was I to know you would turn out to be such a good friend? I will miss the way your eyes twinkled when you smiled and laughed, and how you would come up behind me as I worked, pat my shoulder and say, "You ok, Kiddo?". You were so supportive and helpful, no matter what. I'll miss ragging you every day because you worked too hard to take a lunch break with the rest of us. I'll even miss those darned 8am staff meetings you scheduled. What I wouldn't give to have one tomorrow morning. I love you, Gary. We all do. Don't you forget us. See you soon.

Dear Shirley, Erik, & Family,

We first met Gary in early 1970's--a hippy-ish guy who won our hearts. Lastly, a businessman in suit & tie.

We're so proud that he became a part of our family. We enjoyed him as a cousin for the past "26" years.

We'll always love him & miss him with all of you.

Love, Jeannie & Jim

Although I never had the opportunity to get know Mr. Gebhardt, I believe the fact that he's raised such a fine son speaks volumes about the man. As Erik's physics teacher the past two years, I've had the opportunity to interact with a young man who clearly possesses not only great intellect and enthusiasm for learning, but more importantly, a strong character, cheerful nature, and compassion for others. These attributes don't just appear without loving fathers.

Erik and Mrs. Gebhardt, you and your family are in my prayers. Please let me know if there's anything I can do.

Dear Shirley and Erik,
I had the great pleasure to work with Gary on projects that the hospital undertook and really enjoyed working with him. You should know that he was well liked and respected, a man who was fair in his dealings with both his co-workers and those of us who were peddling our wares.

I received a book of poetry today from my husband's aunt in England. It was written by a lady who had recently lost her husband. I opened it to a page and read a passage that I want to share with you here. It's called, "Our Love", and the last paragraph is this:

"Love is a kaleidoscope, complex in its changing patterns,
Varying the colours to suit the intricate movements of its moods.
But the power of love is absolute and unwavering,
And to have felt its touch is to have embraced life."

May you hold fast to your memories and honor them. Please accept my heartfelt condolences,

I'm going to miss your smile when something tickled you and your ability to remain calm and gracious when the rest of us were not able to remain that way. You were always so thorough and professional in everything you did.

I know your family was proud of you as a husband, father, and a man. It was obvious you were proud of them both by the way your face looked when you spoke of them.

God bless you, Shirley, Erik, and the rest of your family.
