Tribute & Message From The Family
Daniel R. Hillman, age 72, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Chester Hillman and Rodney Jordan.
Danny had a great career in the telecommunication industry, he worked for AT&T and its affiliates, SW Bell Telephone Company and Long Lines for 46 years. He started as a lineman with Long Lines, building towers throughout the United States. He retired as Area Manager in San Antonio. He was recognized as one of the most technically knowledgeable managers in the SW territory. He received a City of San Antonio Proclamation from Mayor Henry Cisneros for introducing one of the Southwest's first cellular mobile telephone systems in the San Antonio Area in January 1985. He received many other coveted recognitions, including the Rider Award for his dedication and persistence in restoring service during a severe flood in Bandera, Texas.
Danny is survived by his wife, Nelia A. Hillman and his stepson, Mark Lustgraaf; his children, Shelly Vaughn (JD), Stacy L. Vyoral (Doug) and Sam Hillman (Jackie); brothers and sisters, Andy Hillman, Rick Hillman, Sherry Lyon, Pati Boles and Janie Hillman. He had thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Hillman and Rodney Jordan and his son, Steven Hillman.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2019 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

My condolences to Nelia and the family. I worked with Danny back in the 80's in Laredo and later worked for him in San Antonio. He was always ready to help and always shared his knowledge. He was a great leader, I was privileged to have known him.

Danny was a long time friend and classmate. I hadn't seen him in many years, but in reading his obituary, I was proud of his accomplishments and successes. I am certain that he will be missed by many, myself included. May God be with the entire family in their time of loss.

I enjoyed working with Danny over the years and counted him as a friend. Danny was especially helpful on a difficult noise problem we had on a Ranch by New Braunfels. He stayed with it until resolved. Nelia, so sad for you and the family. May God surround you with His peace, comfort and rest and bring sweet memories to mind during the difficult days ahead.
