Col. Philip T. Roberts of San Antonio, Texas, died January 18, 2019 age 84. Philip was born in Charleston, SC on September 28, 1934. His parents were Richard C. Roberts and Madelyn Roberts Poulnot. He graduated from Saint James preparatory school in Hagerstown, MD, and then attended the Universities of North Carolina and South Carolina, receiving his BA Degree in 1957. In college he was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He was commissioned as a 2d Lieutenant upon graduation, and served for thirty years in the Air Force, retiring as a Colonel. His assignments included pilot training at Luke AFB, AZ; Izmir Turkey as Executive Officer of a missile squadron; Washington DC as Liaison Officer and contract monitor with industry; Vietnam; the USAF Academy in Colorado; Stuttgart, Germany, as Chief of Protocol, European Command; and Randolph AFB, TX as Director of Information Management until his retirement in 1987. Among his decorations are the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with 23 Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, national Defense Service Medal, Korea Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the USAF Organizational Excellence Award. He completed Air Command and Staff College in 1972 and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1973. Col. Philip T. Roberts is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jan Willard Roberts, also a native of Charleston, SC. He also leaves his three children, Jan R. Sahut (CT), Philip T. Roberts, Jr. (Dee Dee), and Gayle R. Ward-Conner (Steve), plus seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The family will be having an Evening Service at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
