Tribute & Message From The Family

Paul Andrew Cantu, 27, went to be with The Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Austin, Texas. Paul was born in San Antonio, Texas. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior in Summer 1998 and was later baptized in Community Bible Church. Since he was a baby, Paul was severely asthmatic. He had one fourth the lung capacity after one of his lungs collapsed during his first grade in elementary school. Despite his disability Paul excelled both in academics, sports, chess, music and art.
During his elementary years in Redland Oaks Elementary School, he was member of the chess club, the children's orchestra; auditioned for and played the first role of "Texas Governor" in the major play in 5th grade.
Paul was a member of the swimming team with North East Independent School District at the Blossom Athletic Center during elementary, middle and high school competing district wide and won several medals.
Paul played the Violin with Youth Orchestras of San Antonio (YOSA) for ten years. His private violin instructor was the talented and well-known violinist Mrs. Bok-Sook Kinslow from South Korea.
Paul participated in numerous violin competitions both nationally and internationally winning various awards. He was a United States Music Ambassador in Germany, Vienna Austria and Prague Czech Republic in 2009. Paul attended Southwest School of Crafts from 5-18 years of age in the Summer Art Studios. He also took part on the Saturday Morning Discovery where he explored ceramics, stained glass, oils, painting and drawing. Paul was passionate about art, participated in Youth Art Studios; won awards at San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) where he received the nickname of "Pablo Picasso Cantu". He displayed his art at the San Antonio Museum of Art.
Paul graduated from MacArthur High School with Honors in 2010. He won a Music Scholarship from Texas Tech University at Lubbock. During his College years, he played with the Texas Tech University Orchestra; was a member and held offices of the Hispanic Student Society and the Christians at Tech organization. Paul participated in study abroad in Spain and traveled through Spain and Portugal. Paul was bilingual learning a third language and well-travelled. He had visited South America; Mexico; and several European Countries.
Paul graduated with honors from Texas Tech University with a B.A. in Electronic Media and Communications in 2014.
Prior to his recent return to San Antonio, he worked in digital marketing/advertising with Far Heap Solutions in Nevada and another in the Los Angeles area. Paul certainly faced adversity. Paul developed psoriasis, a genetic non-contagious skin condition and returned to San Antonio for treatment. He had recently experienced seizures and had been referred to a neurologist and a dermatologist but was not able to meet with them due to his untimely and tragic death. Paul is now with his best friend and Savior Jesus Christ.
Paul is remembered as a kind, shy, gentle and polite young man. He was very compassionate and a true humanitarian. A good son, grandson, nephew and cousin. A true, loyal friend.
Paul is survived by his parents, Roberto Cantu, MBA, CPA, Attorney at Law and Board Certified in Tax Law in Texas and Maria Patricia "Patty" Cantu, Microbiologist; C.T. ASCP, MA in Curriculum and Instruction and Composite Science Teacher licensed in Texas. Mrs. Cantu is a PhD Candidate at the University of the Incarnate Word.
