Tribute & Message From The Family

Diego Edmund Dilley died on November 7, 2019 as a result of an accidental drug overdose. At the tender young age of 20, Diego fought like a warrior to beat this substance abuse disease that is plaguing our society in record numbers. This disease does not deserve the stigma or shame that its victims and their families often feel. I encourage everyone to be compassionate and patient with the victims of this disease. Addiction disease victims do not choose to be subjected to the cruelness and manipulation this disease dispenses. Addiction disease victims deal with the daily struggle of maintaining sobriety and wanting so badly to function without the constant heavy burden placed on them. To all the family members, friends and professionals who have chosen the noble cause of fighting alongside these victims: "You are appreciated, respected and deserve a special place in heaven". To all parents: pay attention to your children and if you suspect drug use or alcohol abuse, work tirelessly with them to get help, even if they rebel. Although this scourge of a disease will try to break up families and leave turbulence along its path, you must always be steadfast in your love for your child and work tirelessly to understand their disease and help in healthy ways. You may feel like quitting, but don't! Pray always to God for strength and understanding. If you have a child or someone else close to you that is suffering from addiction disease, know that you are not alone and you will be surprised at the number of families dealing with this daily struggle. For all those fighting the good fight against addiction disease, keep in mind the beautiful "Prayer for Serenity": "God, grant me serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next". Amen.

Our Diego was taken away unexpectedly despite his passion for life and a deep desire to make this world a better place. Diego was incredibly loving, caring, respectful, jovial with a smile that was infectious. Diego never met a stranger, and reflective of his Christian upbringing, he was compassionate to all those around him. Despite Diego's valiant and warrior-like spirit in his battle with substance abuse addiction, God knew the immense suffering that Diego dealt with daily. God did not want His child to suffer this indiscriminate disease any longer. Diego, you will live in our hearts forever and we all hope to live up to your wish of a future where we wipe this disease off the face of this earth. Diego was all about family and we enjoyed every precious time with him. A special thanks to all family members, professionals and friends who supported Diego with his quest for sobriety.

Diego is survived by his father, David Edmund Dilley; step mother, Grecia Dilley; siblings, Darla, Eduardo and Davyan; grandparents, David and Coco Dilley; uncles, Jaime Whaley, Douglas Dilley, Dennis Dilley, Daniel Dilley, Derek Dilley; aunts, Darlene Dilley, Rachel Dilley, Katie Dilley and Agnes Dilley; cousins, Collin Dilley, Brenden Dilley, Marisa Dilley, Joey Dilley and Emma Dilley. Diego is also survived by his mother, Marla Trevino; grandmother, Rebecca Trevino; uncle, Alejandro Trevino; aunt, Melissa Trevino and cousins, Alejandra Tijerina and Daniella Tijerina.

Diego was a great and very thoughtful person. He was a very respectful young man who I enjoyed being around. I'm very saddened by this news. My heart goes out to his family. I am especially heartbroken for his mom Marla who was a very good friend of mine. I can relate to what you are going thru and I am so very sorry. I wish I could hug you and make the pain go away, but I know that's not possible.

We rarely feel and or know other's suffering until we meet it face to face, word to word, Sharing the suffering then as we do should lighten the pain, but it only helps us understand. We feel the pain, shed a tear, say a prayer and go on. This is life, but I believe there is a heavenly reward, meeting the Lord and joining the spirit of our loved ones. These loved ones are worth suffering over. Ben Buecker, December 4, 2019.

Dear Dilley Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I never had the privilege to teach Diego, but I did teach Darla at St. Matthew School. He used to come to my classroom to get Darla.
I was at mass this morning at Blessed Sacrament and was taken by surprise when we prayed for Diego.
I will tell the St. Matthew community and we will pray for Diego and your family.
Please give Darla a big hug for me and please accept my deepest condolences.
RIP Diego
Love, Shar Pirro

During this difficult time, reflection on the moments that were spent together become endearing. That is what we must celebrate because the Lord chose for us to sense the magnitude of simplicity. Strength and comprehension become the light in the darkness with the memories. May you find serenity during this testament of life. Love and prayers to all the family.

I don't know your family and did not have the pleasure of meeting Diego but the love you have for him is very apparent. I do share the same disease of addiction that took Diego way too soon and young. By the grace of God, I am sober today. Thank you for sharing your family's struggle with addiction and bringing light to this insidious disease. I am praying for you all during this difficult time and God bless.
