Tribute & Message From The Family

René A. Gleespen, age 62, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. Though born in Allentown, PA on April 25, 1958, she spent her childhood and much of her adult life in Bel Air, Maryland before also residing in North Carolina and Texas. René was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter. She attended The University of Maryland, graduating in 1980 with a degree in nursing, with which she practiced as an RN for 35 years. Married on May 25, 1985, she and her husband shared 35 loving years together and thoroughly enjoyed raising their two daughters, both to whom she was incredibly close.

René was a loving and kind soul to both humans and animals alike. She adored the many pets she adopted and cared for throughout her life and was constantly helping animals in need. She and her husband enjoyed traveling together in recent years, with the beach being her favorite place to visit. Aside from traveling, she enjoyed working in her garden, where she spent most of her days. René was always very involved in her children's lives, constantly spending time helping and volunteering at their schools and with their extracurricular activities throughout the years. She became close with many of her children's teachers, even forming strong friendships with some. Many of her children's friends considered René somewhat of a mother to them, as she always welcomed anyone with open arms. Her vibrant and outgoing personality rarely did not light up a room, and she was greatly loved by many.

She was preceded in death by both her mother and father, Joyce M. Kuhla and Joseph P. Kuhla. René is survived by her husband, Michael Gleespen and daughters, Jenna Gleespen and Megan Gleespen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Antonio Food Bank, the ASPCA, or The Humane Society, all of which she enjoyed supporting.

To the Gleespen family,
My heart is still trying to absorb this. God has a plan and he must have needed another ANGEL. How perfect she is to be by his side. I pray for all of you. She was a dear friend to me, always a giver, never a taker.
Prayers for you daily,
Lisa Wallace,RN,BSN

I've not been in touch with the Gleespens for some time due to the differences in our geography but even though she wasn't a daily part of my life Rene will be missed. She was such a great mix of kindness, generosity, playfulness and just plain attitude. I always thought it was great the way she was so close to her mom and dad and I'm glad she and Mike were able to foster that same closeness with Jenna and Megan as they became adults. It's a wonderful gift. The world is a little less kind without Rene.

I, my family, and our church are praying for you and your family. You are in the thoughts of many and we know the road to healing is going to be long and difficult. If you need added strength, we are praying God provides for you all.

In prayer,
Sarah Booker

I'm so sorry. My heartfelt condolences to the Gleespen Family. It breaks my heart that she's gone -- she was generous and extended kindness, support and help in every way to all. She was among the first to come to our home and hold our newborn son. She had a great laugh and was fun to be around. She listened and cared. She will, indeed, be missed by many. Wishing you all a healthful and peaceful recovery from such a tremendous loss. Hugs from NC.
