Adalgisa Guhlin, age 88, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2017 in San Antonio. She was born on November 22, 1928 in Panama to Miguel Gonzalez and Esmeralda Mayorga. Also known as Ada, she served as a teacher in both Panama and Texas for many years. Her math expertise enabled her to assist hundreds of students in Edgewood ISD and Rio Grande City ISD.
Ada was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Gordon Guhlin, Sr., and her brother Belsio Gonzalez. Adalgisa is survived by her son, Miguel Guhlin; his wife, Monica Guhlin; their children, Aida Rosalia (with her husband, Zachary Guhlincozzi), and James Edward.
Adalgisa's love and actions remain in the hearts of her family, both those in the United States and Panama, as well as numerous lifelong friends, cousins, and siblings in both countries. Her marriage and contributions give truth to the motto of the Canal Zone, "The land divided, the world united." Separated from country of birth, a teacher and mentor to children of both Panama and the United States.
