Beloved husband, father, Papa and brother, Adolpho Gonzales, age 78, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at San Antonio Military Medical Center after a long courageous battle with liver cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Rosa M. Gonzales, and their four children; Valeria and Dan Kvedoras, Adolpho Gonzales Jr, Adrian Gonzales, and Fabian and Kathy Gonzales. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Daniel and William Kvedoras, Andrew and Benjamin Gonzales, Anisah and Nikolai Gonzales, and Cierra and Christian Gonzales; his sister Lupe Gonzales; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Concepcion Gonzales, his brothers Rogelio and Alfredo Gonzales, sisters Francisca Tober and Ascencion Matta.
He proudly served his country for 23 years in the US Air Force. Adolpho was very proud of being a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his service Adolpho earned: National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Silver and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Stars, Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with One Oak Leaf Cluster. After retiring Adolpho continued supporting his fellow veterans by joining American Legion Post 399 and later serving as Commander of the post.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the American Legion Post 399 for their continued support. The family also shares a special thank you to the Interventional Radiology team at SAMMC for their loving care and treatment while Adolpho was in their care.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 14th beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Porter Loring at 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, TX with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, February 15th at 12:15 p.m., a Mass of Resurrection will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 11150 Macdona-Lacoste Rd, Macdona, TX with interment to follow at Fort Sam National Cemetery with military honors.
