Obituary

Alan Douglas McKenzie was born March 1, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio to Rev. Henry and Dorothy McKenzie. He passed away on July 5, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas, with family by his side.

Doug's father was born in Scotland and Doug was always very proud of his Scottish heritage.

Doug graduated from Saline High School in Saline, Michigan. He earned his Bachelor's Degree (with Honors in Psychology) at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. He received a Master's Degree in Psychology from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Further Graduate Work was done at Bowling Green University in Ohio and The University of Texas and Texas A&M University and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In 1968 Doug began a 48 year long wonderful career as a Professor of Psychology at San Antonio College in San Antonio, Texas. He taught a wide variety of psychology courses to thousands of students. He loved the classroom atmosphere and was considered a popular professor. Upon retirement, he was honored by being given the status Professor Emeritus.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Doug had a part-time private counseling practice for several years.

In 1996 Doug married the love of his life, Leticia Pulido (who by the way was one of his former students). Together they explored the world visiting over 40 countries and also enjoyed dozens of cruises. In addition to travel, Doug had many other enthusiasms including his pet cats, reading, watching sports on TV, keeping up with the news, Volksmarching, collecting casino chips, eBay, and collecting old movies.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Dorothy McKenzie and brother Hillis McKenzie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Leticia and four step-children and their families including Marc and Shannon Turner, Sean and Cinthia Turner, David and Michelle Turner, Maritza and Jason Kelley, and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his nephew, Ian McKenzie and nieces, Norma Thompson, Dorothy Ahlswede, and Melody Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at Porter Loring North on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Defense League of San Antonio or the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation of Kendalia, Texas.
