Obituary

Alfred R. Martinez went to his heavenly mansion to meet Jesus on Monday, June 24, 2019 in Elmendorf, TX. Alfred was born on August 9, 1948 in San Antonio where he grew up until he graduated from Edgewood High School. After high school he joined the Army and served as a Combat Engineer during the Vietnam War. Alfred explored welding as a trade in high school and eventually turned it into a career for the rest of his life. In fact, Alfred was so skilled in his trade that he was selected as a student welder for various projects, most notably in the construction of the Tower of the Americas. Alfred was an active member of Southside Baptist Church, in which he demonstrated his devotion to the Lord, serving in every capacity that he could.

Alfred was not only known for the things he skillfully created but also for his undying generosity for others. Alfred always knew how to capture the hearts of many, as he always had a smile on his face and knew how to make everyone laugh until the very end.

He is preceded in death by his parents Fortunato and Dominga Martinez, his sister, Esther Ruiz and nephew, Mike Ruiz.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years Estela C. Martinez; brother Tony Martinez, wife Olga, and sister Rosa Garcia; daughter Lisa Marie Martinez and son Alfred Davey Martinez, wife Brandy; grandchildren, Amanda Martinez, Brianna Sauls, Michael, Tiara, and Jayden Martinez, along with numerous nieces and nephews who he cherished.

Let us remember him for who he was: a hardworking, fun, and loving family man who loved being outside either working in his shop or tending to his plants.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at 6:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
