Alice "Faye" Gumm, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas. Faye was born in Portageville, Missouri on May 28, 1926 and grew up in that community until she moved to Sacramento California to live with her maternal grandmother and finish high school. While working as a secretary, she met her first husband, Jack Alpern, an officer in the United States Air Force. They married and had 3 sons from 1949 to 1951, while being stationed in the Western U.S., overseas in Guam, and eventually settling in O'Fallon, Illinois. Jack was an aviator and died while training for the Korean war in 1952.

1n 1956, Faye met Heston Ray Gumm, who had one son, Heston Ray Gumm, Jr. They married in 1957. The entire family moved to Paris, France where Major Gumm was stationed and their daughter Trisha was born there in 1958. They spent 3 years traveling around Europe eventually settling in San Antonio, TX in the Fall of 1960. Ray and Faye spent the remainder of their lives in San Antonio, spending lots of time traveling by RV throughout the Western United States.

Faye was an active member of the Oak Hills community and was involved with many activities that included sewing, bowling, golf, bridge, gardening, dancing, homemaking, travel, caring for others, and raising her family. She was a 'force of nature' to all who knew her and made many longtime friends who she cherished throughout her life. She was generous, kind, outgoing, and a wonderful friend to the many who came into her life.

She will be dearly missed as she was 'one of a kind' and left an incredible legacy for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
