Obituary

Amanda Aileen Lopez beautiful life's journey ended on September 25th, 2018 surrounded by love at University Hospital where she first started. She was 36 years old. She was born in San Antonio, TX, where she lived her entire life. Amanda graduated from Douglas Macarthur High School and earned her bachelor's degree in Applied Arts and Sciences from Lamar University. Amanda was born on August 10th, 1982. She met John Lopez, who shared the same August 10th birthday as her, and married John on August 10th, 2012.
Amanda's professional career was always geared to help people. She began her service by first working at the YMCA, then spent several years working for the Harlandale School District as a teacher's assistant for elementary aged children and eventually as a Life Skills class Teaching Assistant. Her drive to support and aid others led her path to University Hospital where she joined the Transplant Center. She started in Transplant marketing and soon after became an administrative assistant for the Inpatient Care Coordination team, and finally as the operations manager for their Outpatient Transplant clinic. She considered everyone she worked with family.
She loved working in the transplant community and especially with transplant patients as she herself was a transplant recipient and knew first-hand the joys and struggles of being an organ recipient. She received a liver transplant in January of 2001, another in April of 2004, and a simultaneous liver/kidney transplant on June 30/July 1, 2018.
Amanda lived life full of passion and hope. She was an eternal optimist and always looked for the silver linings in life. She loved do things to brighten your day no matter how she felt. She loved jewelry, her shoes, makeup and clothes. She loved her tea cup yorkie, Lola Belle with all her heart and she loved all her nephews and her niece as much as an "Auntie Amanda" could. But most of all, Amanda loved her family, University family, and many friends. And we know, Amanda, that you will continue to look over and care for us in Heaven as much as you did in life. We will miss you but never forget you.
Amanda is survived by her husband John Lopez; parents, Mary Esther and Ron Njus and Alfred and Norma Rivas; her brothers, Christian Njus, RJ Garza and his wife Sara, with nephews Noah and Wyatt Garza and niece Audrey; her sisters Alyssa, Andrea, Alexandra, Angella, and brother Agustin; brother-In-law, Joseph Lopez and wife Marissa and nephew, Joseph Paul; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Grandmothers, Evangeline Hubbard and Consuelo Hernandez; grandfather, Alfredo Rivas. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Amadeo Hubbard, and grandparents Irving and Marian Njus.
