Obituary

Dr. Angel Garcia Del Villar, age 77, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in San Antonio. He was born on November 6, 1939 in Mexico City to Jose Angel Garcia Chávez and Lucia Villar de Garcia.

He received his medical degree from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 1965. He completed his Pediatric Residency at The University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, Texas in 1969. From 1970 to 1976, Dr. Garcia had a private practice in Mexico City. Aside from his private practice, he volunteered part of his time assisting the poor providing health care services through the state hospital in Nezhualcoyotl, Mexico. He moved his family to San Antonio, Texas in 1976 and became a Fellow of the American College of Pediatrics, American Academy of Pediatrics and Board Certified with the American Board of Pediatrics. In the late 1970's and 1980's, Dr. Garcia volunteered his time to assist patients at the Stella Maris Clinic and Barrio Clinic on the West Side of San Antonio. In 1995, after 26 years in private practice, he became a founding partner of San Antonio Pediatric Associates. Dr. Garcia retired in 2013. Throughout his life, the highlight of every week was the opportunity to spend quality time with his Family. In spite of his busy schedule, he made it a point to always be involved in each individual's life, playing, counseling, teaching and coaching. He loved to read but his true passion was the game of soccer. At the age of 18, he was selected to take part in the developmental team for the Club America Soccer Club in Mexico in which he participated for one season before deciding to attend Medical School. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing, coaching or watching the sport. When he was no longer physically able to play he switched to playing soccer on Xbox with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucia Villar de Garcia; and father, Angel Garcia Chávez. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rosario Del Rio de Garcia; brother, Dr. Ricardo Del Villar; son, Angel Garcia and his wife Kristy Garcia; daughter Rosario Matulewicz and her husband Antonio Matulewicz; daughter Lucia Garcia and her husband Jorge Garcia; daughter Araceli Thompson and her husband Doug Thompson; eleven grandchildren, Paulina Saenz and her husband Jeffrey Saenz; Antoni Matulewicz, Angela Garcia, Jorge Garcia, Estibaliz Matulewicz, Andres Garcia, Gabriel Garcia, Sebastian Garcia, Aniela Matulewicz, Catalina Thompson and Araceli Thompson.
