Obituary

Anna Madeleine Hahn Johnson, 84, of San Antonio, passed peacefully at home on January 25, 2019 knowing she was dearly loved. First generation American, she was born July 27, 1934 in Hoboken, New Jersey to Bernard Hahn and Madeleine Allain. At age 7, she and her sisters, Betty and Madeleine, moved to Tampa, Florida for her father's work as merchant marine carpenter. She attended Jefferson HS. She met her husband, her "sweetie", Veskel "Vek" Johnson in Ft Lauderdale where he was attending flight school. They married, after only 3 dates, on July 30, 1955 in Randolph AFC Chapel and she spent the next 34 years as a supportive & devoted USAF wife and mother of 2 sons, stationed at 10 different US bases until 1971 when they settled and retired in San Antonio. The hundreds of friends they made over their 52 years of marriage stayed in touch with countless exchanged Christmas cards.

Ann turned heads all her life with her beauty, elegance, energetic personality, and a voice always heard sharing funny quips meant to make others laugh. She was involved and often a leader in military wives' groups, music, art and civic groups, supporting all of them with the immense passions she had. Her favorite past-times were restoring antique furniture - especially French gold-leafing, cooking for family and friends - especially spaghetti for her grandkids, home decorating, raising Sheltie dogs, caring for neighbors, attending SA Symphony concerts with friends, e-mailing, marveling at televised figure skating competitions and later, golf (Vic's sport). Limited in life only by her 60 years of auto-immune illnesses, she became a self-taught expert in Ankylosing Spondylitis and Episodic Ataxia; remaining resilient until the end despite the daily challenges these diseases dealt her.

She is survived by her sister, Madeleine Brockwell of LA; her sons Neal Johnson (wife Carol) of Austin, Eric Johnson (wife Christie) of Cuero; grandchildren Ryan (wife Christine), Kirsten Hagen (husband Daniel), Brittany, Rory (wife Alexis), E.J.; and many cousins, nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Betty Pruitt.

Visitation will be 3pm to 9pm, Thursday, February 7 at Porter Loring on McCullough in San Antonio. Graveside services will be held 10 AM Friday, February 8 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
