Obituary

Our cherished Mommy, Antonia N. (Pereida) Rodriguez, age 89, also known as 'Cata' by her Nieto kin, entered into an eternal rest on a Friday evening, July 3, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19. She was born on a rainy Friday evening, February 13, 1931 in San Antonio, Texas, to Gregorio Nieto (d.1938) and Guadalupe Nieto de Navarro (d. 1995).

Antonia often and generously sacrificed her wants and needs for her children, grandchildren and others. Her need to help others surpassed her sensitive and compassionate heart and people often gravitated, appreciated and respected her non-judgmental character and her emotional support. She was a renaissance woman with a wide range of interests and abilities, a voracious reader, well spoken, journaled her childhood and adult life events often. She had a love of books and passed that down to her children. Her family fondly remembers her love of music and shared their stories when she was a young woman and how she and her dance partners effortlessly performed the jitterbug.

She had a high regard for people working in the healthcare profession. Her career was vast, working at the Robert B. Green, several Skilled Nursing Facilities, Bexar County Jail Detox Facility, SASH and finally ending her career caring for people in Hospice. Her family, friends and neighbors often sought her out for her healthcare knowledge and advice.

Antonia was preceded in death by her son, Carlos Pereida III and survived by her children: Maria Antonia Araiza (Toby), Celia P. Aguilera (Richard), Janie Pereida (Edward Hernandez), Gregorio (Greg) Pereida, and Elizabeth P. Garza (Joe R.), 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, including her brother and sister's; Jose M. Nieto (San Diego, CA), Margarita Zarate, Teodora Navarro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
