ANTONIO G. ALVAREZ
January, 28, 1927 – February 21, 2018

Antonio G. Alvarez was born on January 28, 1927 in Ballinger, Texas passed away on February 21, 2018, he was the third oldest of eleven children. He was preceded in death by his parents Alberto Herrerias Alvarez and Josefa Garcia Alvarez; son, Aaron Franco Alvarez; sister, Hortense and husband Jesus; brothers, Alfonso, Rudolfo, Armando, Manuel, and Richard; brother-in-law Dr. Gerardo Saenz. He is survived by his dear and loving wife Margaret Franco Alvarez; son, Dr. Joseph Alvarez and wife Kathy; son, Anthony; daughter, Anita; granddaughter, Elise Kristin and grandson, Robert Edward; great grandson, Dean; sister, Ruby Jean Saenz; sister, Linda and husband Enrique; brother, Federico; daughter-in-law, Debbie Corley; sisters-in-law, Bettie, Naomi, Susie, Teresa and Lydia and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

Antonio worked in two different professions before finding satisfaction and motivation in education. His career in education started in the Eagle Pass ISD, continued in the San Angelo ISD until he moved to San Antonio and the San Antonio ISD where he served in several different positions. He was a Jr. High and High School Teacher, SAISD Community Ombudsman, a Jr. High and High School Principal, District Department Director and Assistant Superintendent. He retired after 44 years of service in education. He held the same aspirations of success for his students as he had for his own children. Education was of high priorty.

He had an active and happy life, was multi-talented in the trades, had many hobbies and great friends. He was a long time and active member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He performed voluntary and charity work wherever needed. He was a Veteran of the World War II; he volunteered for the Army at 17 years old.

The Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
