Obituary

Colonel Arthur S. Brant, (Ret.) age 78, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on April 20, 1941 in Huntington, West Virginia to Arthur S. and Alice (Marshall) Brant. Art graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic high school and attended college at Marshall University. After graduation from Marshall University, he joined the U.S. Army as a captain. While stationed at Fort Story, Virginia he met and married his wife of 53 years, Peggy. During his 30 years of service, Art and his family traversed the globe including duty stations in both Vietnam and Europe, making lifelong friends along the way. Upon retirement, Art and Peggy settled in San Antonio. After retirement, he devoted himself to spending time with his children and grandchildren who affectionately called him PePa. One of Pepa's favorite pastimes was traveling wherever his grandchildren were playing the sports they loved. Whether it was the Smithson Valley volleyball courts, the Classic Elite soccer fields, or the Huntington Beach fields and gyms, Pepa enjoyed traveling to watch and photograph his grandchildren, earning himself the nickname "Peparrazi." In late 2015, Art was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. He was given a life expectancy of two years, but the solider in him battled for four.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maj. Alice M. Brant (USAF, Ret.) Colonel Brant is survived by his wife, Peggy A. Brant; daughters, Kimberly Schneider and Kristina Thiel; son, Patrick Brant; son-in-law, Eric Thiel; daughter-in-law, Monica Brant; grandchildren, Jordyn Schneider, Julia Thiel, Chaise Thiel, Miles Brant, Maddox Brant and Malea Brant; and great-grandson, Logan Patrick Gembarowski.
