Obituary

Arthur Xavier Joseph, beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, went to be with Our Lord on Friday, October 5th, 2018 at the age of 102.

Arthur was born in San Antonio Texas on July 21, 1916, the son of Nick Joseph and Helen Tajkowski Joseph, both immigrants from Poland. He attended Central Catholic High School and St. Mary's University. He served in the United States Coast Guard as a radio operator during World War II. After the war, Arthur began his long career at the San Antonio Drug Company as a salesman. He met the love of his life and future bride, Dorothy Schiller Joseph, while working at the company. Arthur and Dorothy married in 1952, and raised 4 children. Their wonderful marriage lasted over 62 years, until Dorothy passed away in 2014 at the age of 87.

Throughout his life, Arthur gave back to his church, community, and country. He was a volunteer at the Audie Murphy VA hospital for over 21 years, and his service was highlighted in the Veteran's Administration national book of volunteers, A Grateful Nation. He served as first President of the Holy Name Society. He was a Knight of St. Gregory, and a Knight of Columbus, and a member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.

Arthur enjoyed golf, dancing, coin collecting, stamp collecting and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by sons Michael G. Joseph of San Antonio, Steven C. Joseph of Houston, daughters Jeanie M. Joseph, and Grace E. Joseph, both of San Antonio, daughter-in-law Delia Joseph, grandchildren Richard M. Joseph and Kathryn A. Joseph, and many nieces and nephews. As a witness to over 100 years of history, Arthur lived his life with compassion, humor and love. He was an extraordinary man.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, October 09, 2018 at Porter Loring on McCullough.
