Obituary for Barbara Ann Lowe

August 26, 1949 - August 20, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 68

Barbara Ann Lowe was born on August 26, 1949 to Frank and Ola Beatrice Henderson (Nee Burton).

After the demise of her parent's marriage, Barbara moved with her mother and new little sister, Clara, to California in 1952.

Barbara grew up a bubbly, friendly girl whose natural gift for communication helped her make friends easily.

Her unbridled curiosity and thirst for knowledge helped her to excel at all she attempted and with her outgoing personality no mountain was too hard for her to climb.

Raised by a God-fearing mother and grandmother, Barbara accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Reverend Noah E. Taylor of Zion Baptist Evangelistic Temple in
Compton, California.

Her talent as a singer was soon recognized by all and as a member of the church's youth choir, she was often called on as a soloist in addition to performing gospel recitals throughout Compton and surrounding cities.

On May 17, 1966, at age 16, Barbara gave birth to her first child, a daughter whom she named Beatrice after her mother.

From that day forward, the role of mother was foremost in her life. So with determination and her head held high, Barbara continued her quest for knowledge, graduating with honors from Compton Senior High School in June of 1967.

To provide for her daughter, Barbara immediately went to work for The Harford Insurance Group in Los Angeles as a Human Resources

At age 18, Barbara married her longtime boyfriend, Jesse James Wadley and on April 4, 1968, gave birth to her second child, Jesse Wadley Jr.

By age 21, Barbara had become the youngest female supervisor of color in the coding department for The Hartford.

Barbara's unparalleled zest for life allowed her to see the world as her own personal canvas and she painted her life story in vibrant exciting colors.

Her marriage to Jesse, Sr. ended after 10 years and she briefly wed Willie Beamon before ending that union and moving her little family to Plano, Texas.

In Texas, Barbara continued her climb up the ladder of success with The Hartford and her family grew when she became a grandmother in 1980 and met and married her third husband David Lowe the following year.

Barbara remained married to David until his death in 2001.

David's death took its toll on Barbara both emotionally and physically so that she finally retired in 2004 after 37 years of service with The Hartford.

Barbara's health continued to decline and she suffered a stroke that left her partially disabled.

Even so, Barbara remained feisty, outspoken and strong willed, commanding the room whenever she entered until the horrific accident that took her life on August 20, 2018.

Barbara was preceded in death by father Frank Henderson, mother Ola Beatrice Burton, Brothers Fred Hollins, David Henderson and
