Obituary

Beatrice A. (Bee) Hernandez was called home to our Lord on Saturday, August 5, 2017 with family at her bedside. She was a loving, mother, wife, friend, and tireless volunteer.

Bee was a woman of devout faith who taught her Catholic values to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. With her loving heart, she raised eight children and babysat many grandchildren. She was a great cook and was an even better baker and she was especially known for her fruitcakes and mini pecan pies. She and her husband, Jose, both shared in preparing elaborate holiday meals and weekend barbeques. Bee found great joy in having all of her family gathered at her house on Aurora, enjoying those meals and celebrating together as a family.

If raising eight children wasn't enough, she also worked for a short time caring for the elderly and she was an active volunteer for her children's schools and activities. The Holy Family Altar Society, of which she was a member, was her home away from home, and she enjoyed spending countless hours volunteering and being with her friends.

Bee had a great love of plants and would be truly described as having had a "green thumb". She would spend many hours in her greenhouse, which was her personal backyard retreat. She loved all plants, but especially cacti. She had beautiful plants and could grow anything from a cutting or a seedling. Bee had a gift with nature and shared this with anyone who would listen.

Bee will always be remembered for being one of the biggest "little" Spurs fans. She would watch the games, cheer for her Spurs, and pick up her free Valero coffee on the mornings after those wins. Her love of her Spurs spread to her family as well. We will always remember her love of her Spurs; but more importantly, for her devout, loving, selfless big heart. She was the tiniest of ladies with one of the biggest hearts.

She is preceded in death by her father, Fidel Aguirre; mother, Angela Hernandez; husband, Jose Gallegos Hernandez Sr.; daughter, Beatrice Marie Hernandez and her sister, Rosa Flores.

Beatrice is survived by her children: Rose H. Grube (Bob), Josephine H. Benavides (Tomas), Jose G. Hernandez, Jr. (Gloria), Juan A. Hernandez (Carol), Belinda A. Charles (Frederick), Yolanda H. Monsivais (Jerry), Paul A. Hernandez (Connie) and Mark A. Hernandez; 25 grandchildren and 47 great grandchildren; her sisters, Lee Gonzalez and Virginia Garcia; other family members and many wonderful friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held at the Porter Loring Funeral Home at 1101 McCullough on Tuesday, August 15th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by the recitation of the rosary beginning at
7:00 PM in the chapel.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 152 Florencia, on Wednesday, August 16th at 9:00 AM with interment to follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

A reception celebrating Bee's life will follow at the Holy Family Parish Hall after the interment.
