Obituary

On Monday, December 25, 2017, Beatrice Morales Sochia went to join her Lord and Savior. She was born in Seguin, Texas on May 27, 1928, to Henry B. and Tomasita C. Morales. She attended high school at The Holding Institute in Laredo, Texas, graduating in 1947. She went on to attend college at Southwest Texas State Teacher's College in San Marcos, graduating with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1950 and an M. Ed. in 1954. While attending college, she met the love of her life, Maurice Sochia, whom she was married to for 62 years before his passing. Beatrice had a long and wonderful career as a first grade teacher initially in Edinburg, Texas, Poteet, Texas and finally for the South San Antonio Independent School District where she taught for 39 years. She touched many young lives with her love, care and devotion. In addition to being a wonderful elementary school teacher, she was also a loving wife and a caring mom. She was an amazing, selfless, strong and happy woman who was devoted to her husband, her children and her extended family. To her family she was known as "Aunt Bea." She loved family get-togethers where she could laugh and visit with her extended family as nothing made her happier than to be surrounded by family. She lived a life of faith and truth and taught all those around her kindness, caring, and love.

She was an active member of the Little Church of La Villita, having fond memories of the Reverend Paul Soupiset, and later Reverend David Edmunds and his wife Cleo. Beatrice, her husband and two children would later become members of St. Matthew's Methodist Church. She was a member of the San Antonio Retired Teacher's Association and also an active member of the American Association of University Women, enjoying their Historic Southwest and Book Club interest groups.

Beatrice is survived by daughter, Deborah Sochia; son, David Sochia; son-in-law, Gudmundur Eyfells; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Sochia; and three grandchildren- Colton, Emma, and Harry Sochia, as well as her sisters-in-law Felicia Morales, Hortencia Morales and numerous nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends. She was preceded in her death by her husband, Maurice; her parents, and her brothers Johnny, Henry, and Samie Morales.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
