Obituary for Benjamin Abel Valdez

November 4, 1988 - January 20, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 29

Our beloved son, Benjamin Abel Valdez, age 29, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. Ben graduated from Winston High School in 2007, and in 2013 he proudly earned a degree in computer networking from ITT. As a child, he was a Cub Scout, played tee ball, practiced taekwondo, and played the bass guitar. Ben loved vintage cars and Harleys, collected gadgets and electronics, and excelled at hands-on learning. He spent time repairing and modifying anything and everything, and he dreamed of one day owning his own computer shop. He was eager to share his knowledge and help others with technological problems and home repairs.

He loved attending Spurs games, traveling, fishing, shopping, barbequing, and trying new things. He had his motorcycle license, enjoyed riding four wheelers, and appreciated all machinery. He spent time hunting, making knives, trying new recipes, playing video games, and watching shows and movies. One of Ben's favorite ways to end an evening was to watch "how-to" shows, procedural dramas, or comedies with his cherished cat, Harley, and his loved ones.

He was the life of the party and always enjoyed spending time with friends, family and neighbors, whether it was remodeling a house or relaxing on the porch. Ben could make anyone laugh, even in times of grief. He was very thoughtful and was always looking after others. He accepted everyone unconditionally and quickly made friends out of strangers. Ben made lasting friendships wherever he went – he was loved by everyone. Most of our stories start with "remember the time Ben…?" We are very proud of what he was able to achieve in his brief time on earth, even more proud of the man he was. Ben will always be remembered as a kind, funny, and strong – a one of a kind young man, who is loved and missed beyond measure.

He is preceded and greeted by Grandma Mary.

He is survived by his mother, Virginia Valdez; his father and step-mother, Drs. Daniel Valdez and Patricia Winter-Valdez; his siblings, Daniel D. Valdez (Chelsea Rea), Jacob Valdez, and Patti Valdez; his grandparents, Daniel and Aurora Valdez, Dimas Martinez, and Victor (Ruth) Sanders; his aunts and uncles, Ben (Awilda) and Abel (Becky) Valdez, Raynee (Joe) Arabit, Chris Sanders, Bobby and Walter Fisher, Seiglende Mundon, and Jeanette (Mark) Mosley; his cousins, Gina (Jason) Boone, Mali Boone, Maci Boone, Maya Boone, Roni Valdez, and Michelle Valdez-Berry; his friends Chris Denno, Tripper Matthews, Cameron Brown, and Richard Moravits; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Saturday, February 3 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm - Memorial Service at 1:00pm in the Chapel of Porter Loring on McCullough.
