Obituary

Bert Brown, born March 6, 1952, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 18, 2018. "When you put your cares in God's Hands, He puts peace in your heart," wrote Bert in his daily journal. Bert, an outdoorsman, grew up in Rockdale, Texas helping his father raise cattle and riding his quarter horse. He graduated from Rockdale High School lettering in 4 sports. In football, the Austin-American Statesman named "Big Bert" a Super Centex football star. He was an All-Central Texas and an All-13AAA choice as a tight end and defensive end for the Rockdale Tigers.

In 1972 Bert married Joan Marie Mantooth of San Antonio, Texas. Bert described Joan as the "love and light of his life". Together they moved to Huntsville, Texas where he began his career in security. August 2, 1973, Joan gave birth to fraternal twins, daughter, Tara and son, James.
Bert and family moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1984 and enjoyed a successful career of 24 years in security. A highlight of his career was planning, coordinating and facilitating the security for the San Antonio Golf Association for the PGA tour in San Antonio from 1990 to 1995.

Bert held numerous roles in the church. He was an ordained elder, teacher and a disciplined student of The Word of God. Bert was also a preacher of The Word and after preaching one of many sermons, on August 27, 2006, he had the privilege of performing his first baptism at Thousand Oaks Christian Church. Bert was gifted with a rich baritone voice that he used for the Lord in worship teams, solos, and numerous weddings.

Bert loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing with his wife, children and grandchildren. Bert was a member of Sunset Ridge Church of Christ where he faithfully participated in its work for Christian Assistance Ministry feeding the homeless each week. He felt it an honor to serve the church in any capacity needed.

Bert leaves behind, Joan Marie Brown, his loving wife of 46 years; his children, Tara Lynn Pandolfi and husband Andrew, James E. Brown and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Bailey, Kaleb and Kallie Pandolfi; Jacob and Maxwell Brown. His parents Elbert Howard and Rubye Ellen Spence Brown preceded him in death.
