Obituary

Betty Gene Johnson Herndon went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 23rd 2018

Born in San Antonio, TX on September 24th 1931 to William Delbert Johnson and Valeska Freitag Johnson. She was a member of the Brackenridge High School Purple Jackets when she graduated in 1949.

After graduation Betty went to work for SouthWestern Bell Telephone Company where she was revered by her bosses for her hard work, dedication and speedy short hand skills.

She married the love of her life, Frank LaRue Herndon on July 31st 1955. In their 44 years of marriage Betty and Frank were bestowed many blessings but none greater as the adoption of their first son Frank Matthew Herndon in 1962 and then their second son Mark William Herndon in 1965. Betty Retired from SouthWestern Bell in 1986 after 36 and a half years of service as a Division Head Administrator.

In her spare time and during her retirement years Betty operated a floral work shop out of her home. She was passionate about home decor, floral design and all things pretty.

Always one to keep herself busy, there wasn't a craft or project she didn't try to master. She loved the holidays, Christmas was her season and she always made it special for her family.

She succeeded at almost everything she put her mind to but making homemade pie crusts was something that always defeated her.
In 1990 she was blessed with her first grandchild Frank Travis Herndon. They were inseparable for the next 28 years. She adored him and he did her.

Betty was a strong Christian with unshakable faith, She reminded all of her family and friends daily about God's amazing grace. Betty loved her miniature poodle Molly, the two of them shared a special bond.

Betty is survived by her son, Frank Matthew Herndon and his wife, Karen Sorrell Herndon; Son, Mark William Herndon and his wife Victoria Herndon; grand children, Frank Travis Herndon, Destiny Herndon, Hannah Herndon and Caleb Herndon; Niece, Stacy Baker and husband Steve Baker; and life long Best Friend Shirley Myers.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother Valeska Freitag Johnson, Father William Delbert Johnson, Husband Frank LaRue Herndon and best friends Blythe Lowery, Sara Mills, Robert "Country" Myers and Jackie Williams
