Betty was born on May 11, 1931 to parents Samuel Dewey and Charlie Belle Thomas Brown. Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Billye Joyce Brown Lambert and Charles Garrison Brown. Born and raised in Quanah, Texas, Betty met and grew up with her future husband from elementary school into high school before moving to Miami, Arizona in high school to graduate there. After returning to Quanah to spend the summer with her sister in 1949, she rekindled her love with Charles and they were married on December 11th, 1949.

In 1953, Charles and Betty moved to San Antonio, where they lived until moving to Denver, Colorado for a short while in 1956, then moving back to San Antonio in 1957, where they have lived until now. Betty and Charles immediately joined Highlands Christian Church, where Charles' cousin Roy Holt was the Pastor.

They crewed for hot air balloons and volunteered with the City of San Antonio Police Department as Citizens on Patrol. They traveled extensively, which included the Olympics in Korea and Switzerland, where Charles competed. Later in life, she served with the Kairos Prison Ministry in Hondo and Lockhart, Texas, and also the Emmaus Community. Betty was a talented crafter of ceramics, needle work, and a gifted seamstress.
