Bruce Harvard Thompson passed away on February 22 at the age of 75. He is survived by his brothers Robert and William, and his sons Scott and Mark.
Born in Atlanta, Bruce met his late and beloved wife Carole at Druid Hills High School; they were married for 53 years. The couple traveled the world, cruised in riverboats, and visited Normandy, France, in keeping with Bruce's love of WWII history. He also enjoyed skiing and hiking in Colorado, and cheering for the Spurs in San Antonio. He was known affectionately to his six grandchildren as "Papa T."
Bruce received his MD from Emory University School of Medicine. As a major in the U.S. Army, he finished his residency at Johns Hopkins as chief resident. While at Walter Reed Army Medical, Bruce lent his expertise in the field of laparoscopy, traveling to Singapore, Thailand and China to educate others. Beginning in 1975, he had a private practice in obstetrics and gynecology in San Antonio for over three decades before joining his son Mark's practice with Northeast OB/GYN near the end of his career.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
