In the 1980's, he earned a national coaching license and went on to coach at a variety of schools including Holy Spirit Catholic School, St. Anthony's High School, Central Catholic High School, and Texas Lutheran College. He was also involved in Olympic Development Programs (ODP), finding and nurturing local soccer talent for national teams.

In the 1990's, Patt acquired a state license as a substance abuse counselor and was director of the Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in San Antonio for several years. He retired from professional coaching and counseling in the early 2000's, but continued to be involved in youth soccer through his grandchildren.

One of Patt's greatest loves was music. For more than 30 years, he played guitar and sang as a member of "Boots", a country music band in the Corpus Christi area.
