Beloved Father, Husband, Grandfather and Friend...

Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Charles "Carlos" A. Mata, age 83, peacefully entered God's rest on Monday, May 13, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas he joined the U.S Air Force in 1954. Upon completion of his basic training at Lackland, Air Force Base he was assigned to the 48th Fighter Group in Chaumont, AFB France. After receiving an honorable discharge at the end of his tour with the U.S Air Force he transferred to the Army Reserves where he completed over 25 years of service. His last assignment was with the 63rd Army Command where he served as Chief NCO
Logistician.

He was an active parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and also attended mass weekly at the Oblate chapel with his wife and cherished friends. Many of the retired Oblate priests were very close friends of his and he enjoyed treating them to lunch and spending quality time talking and praying with each one.

Some of his hobbies included reading, catching a movie with his grandkids, giving advice over a good cup of black coffee, or cheering on his favorite teams – the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Astros. He was most happy however, spending as much time as he could with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren creating lifelong memories and living life to the very fullest.

His vibrant life will be forever cherished by his devoted wife of 43 years, Lidia Gonzalez Mata; His two loving daughters, Rosalinda Arredondo (husband Moses) and Jeanette Mata; His adoring grandchildren Elizabeth, Joshua, and Aaron Arredondo, and many other relatives and close friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough.
