Obituary for Christine "Chris" Colee Schott

July 19, 1946 - December 15, 2019
San Antonio, Texas | Age 73

Christine "Chris" Colee Schott, our wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away December 15, 2019 at age 73.

Chris was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 19, 1946 to Charles Henry "Hank" Colee and Charlotte "Punca" Lallande Colee. She graduated from Academia San Jose High School in 1964 and was a competitive swimmer traveling throughout the Caribbean and Central America to compete. Sharing in her unique upbringing on San Juan Naval Station in Puerto Rico are her sister and best friend, Catherine "Cathie" Colee Barrett, and three younger brothers Charles Philip "Phil" Colee, Robert Steven "Steve" Colee (d), and James Michael "Mike" Colee. Their wonderful sibling friendship, Colee sense of humor, card-playing skills, and love of books was a special bond they shared throughout their lives.

Chris attended Immaculata College in Washington DC from 1964-1966. Afterwards she lived with her sister Cathie. The two Colee girls had many fun adventures together, and it was here that Chris met her husband of 51 years, William Ray "Bill" Schott as neighbors in the same apartment complex. The Colee girls hosted a July 4th party which Bill attended, and Chris asked Bill to ride bikes on the Potomac River. Bill said yes, one of the best decisions of his life.

Bill and Chris were married on September 14, 1968. They moved all over the country before finally setting up roots in San Antonio, where they lived for 43 years. They have two children, William Brent (Brent) Schott of Dallas (wife Jamie Schott), and Karen Schott Bourgeois of Georgetown (husband Andy Bourgeois), and 6 wonderful grandchildren. Victoria "Tori" Bourgeois Burke (husband CJ Burke) (26), Hunter Gierhart (23), Bryden Bourgeois (17), Cameron Bourgeois (13), Justus Schott (10), and Emery Lynn Schott (8), and many wonderful nieces and nephews. These basic facts don't convey the deep connection Chris had with each of her children and grandchildren, always seeing them for exactly who they are and accepting them completely.

Chris worked in Special Education as an instructional aide for NEISD for 20 years before obtaining her Masters Degree in Education from the University of the Incarnate Word in 2007 at the age of 60. She was awarded the Dreeben School of Education Student Scholastic Achievement and Service Award and proceeded to work in Judson school district until her retirement in 2015. Chris was willing to take on the most complicated of students and challenging situations that most ordinary people would avoid. She treated each student, and most especially the special needs students, as if they were her own children. She received many letters of sincere gratitude from parents throughout the years.

In her retirement, Chris immersed herself into volunteer work at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, which she attended since its inception in 1976. These years were where Chris found herself the most content fulfilling her life's calling in serving the Lord. Here she connected with old friends of over 40 years as well as new friends who got her through her last few weeks as only girlfriends can.

Chris's passions were Christ, family, friends, kindness, and cats. She is consistently described as kind, joyful, caring, classy, and accepting, and radiated warmth to all those around her, especially when they needed it most. These qualities made everyone want to be around her and are why she will be so deeply missed.

Our family would like to thank each of you who knew Chris and have shared memories of her, either with us or kept in your hearts. Knowing that her joy and compassion touched so many has eased our pain and we know her good works will continue to live on through everyone she touched.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

7:00 P.M.
Eulogies will follow the Rosary.
