Obituary for Christine Doris De La Peña

December 29, 1949 - June 3, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 68

Christine passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas surrounded by her loving family on June 3rd, 2018. She was born in San Francisco, California on December 29, 1949 to her parents James Ray and Roselyn Belaski. She attended schools in San Francisco and worked for Metropolitan Life and retired after 20 years at Bank of America in California. She loved taking care of her customers and everyone thought very highly of her work and caring manner. She and her husband, Joe, moved to Texas after retirement to be close to her son, Clinton, and his family. She loved her children so very much. While in San Antonio, she made many friends; friends such as Connie from her Bible classes, friends from her Nia classes and her friends from the Thrive Well organization, Josee Battle, Janet, Diana, Edmee, Rachel, Stacy, Anna, Liz, Dawn, Cheri, Renee, sister-in-law, Velia, daughter, Patty, Rosa Maria, Michele. Thanks to special friends and doctors, Dr. Amy Lang, Dr. Deberry and Dr. De La Garza who helped Chris with her long battle with breast cancer at the Start Center and all the staff at Embrace Hospice.

Chris loved crocheting and did beautiful work and volunteered to teach classes to other cancer patients at the Start Center. Chris was also involved in "Friends of Love" where she would crochet blankets, booties and hats for preemie babies at the various hospitals. She loved volunteering and helping the children. My wife is a beautiful person and is now a beautiful angel. The many friendships that she made in San Antonio meant so much to Chris, she just loved them all; that was her life. She fought cancer for over 8 years until the end, she was a fighter. Chris was a very kind, loving and strong woman and delicate at the same time. Everyone used to say they loved her smile.

She is preceded in death by her father, Jim Ray and granddaughter, Miriam Sophia. Chris is survived by her loving husband, Jose De La Peña; her mother, Roselyn Fuentes; her loving sister, Judy Attard from San Jose, California and her two brothers, Vernon Ray and wife Barbara from Illinois and Carl Fuentes and spouse, John from San Francisco, California; her daughter, Monica and husband Rodrigo Vega and their children Mitchell, Francesca and Sullivan; her son, Clinton Celli, wife Christine and grandson, Nathen; stepdaughter, Brenda Farrington and son, Gregory Joseph; many nephews and nieces. We will all miss you Honey; go with God. Your husband, Joe, family and friends. P.S. I'll see you again, Joe.
