... "traveled half way around the world to find his soul mate" ...

Obituary

Chris "Nitro" Benamati, age 47, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017. Chris was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania to parents David and Sharon (Ackerson) Benamati. Appling to the Army as a reservist during his junior year in high school, Chris began serving immediately after his graduation from Purchase Line High School in 1988. He proudly served as a Combat Engineer in Desert Shield and Desert Storm with 20th Engineer Battalion; after they moved from Fort Campbell, Kentucky to Fort Hood, Texas. He loved to tell the story of how he "traveled half way around the world to find his soul mate" Sheri while in Korea. Upon discharge from active duty, he served in the Texas National Guard. Chris received an Associates Degree in Electrical Systems Technology from Texas State Technical College. He then followed his passion as an Industrial Journeyman Electrician.

Chris was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but would often say he got to Texas as fast as he could. He spent 25 years of his life in Texas, where he laid roots and raised his family. When you met Chris you realized right away he was an outdoorsy kind of guy. Chris was an avid bow hunter, believing it was the true form of hunting. More than anything, he loved going fishing with family or buddies. Chris made friends with anyone he took the time to talk to. Those included ones he never met in person while talking to his buddies on the CB radio. He even touched lives across the miles and into other countries during online gaming. He was a member of VFW Post # 7108 in Helotes, TX. He had great pride in his country and the time he served. Chris had a great sense of humor and a heart of gold. He fostered animals for a local rescue. When someone needed a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, help moving, a place to stay or something to eat… he was the first to offer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Sheri; his children: Joshua Spiars, Kayla Mumau (Jason), Christine Stewart, Dakotah Benamati and Emily Benamati; granddaughter, Delilah Rose Spiars; grandmother, Gladys Ramsey; parents, Dave and Sharon; sister, Toni Webb (Todd); brother, Ron Benamati; beloved aunt, Denise Johnston (J.J.), Bobbie McGinnis (Ray); Uncle, Bob Benamati (Sue); In-laws: Parents; Pam Stewart, Louis Leslie "Skip" Dent (Sharon); Sister, Alison; Brother's, Jason Stewart (Keri), Jason Dent (Ashley), Jeremy Stewart (Megan); Aunt Sheri (Jim); several nieces, nephews and cousins, along with a large extended circle of friends. Chris was preceded in death by his baby sister, Barbie; grandparents, Pete and Libby Benamati, Robert Ackerson; father-in-law, Dr. Jerry Stewart; and uncle, Jim Benamati.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm – 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2017 Porter Loring North.
