Obituary

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of our loving father, grandfather and husband, Damaso Ornelas Carbellido. Damaso passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 68 in San Antonio, where he spent the majority of his life. He was born to Damaso and Armida Ornelas Carbellido on October 10, 1948.

Damaso developed his skill in cabinetry at a young age and became very passionate about it. His passion led to his career that he held for over 40 years. When he wasn't working at his trade, he would assist his wife of 17 years, Isabel, in her shop to create and design beautiful floral arrangements. In his spare time he would venture out with Isabel to the casinos, but being from the generation of watching our wallets, he did not like to spend too much money gambling at the tables. Instead, he mostly just went for the excitement and atmosphere of it all. As much as he enjoyed the casino, he really cherished the downtime of staying home and watching a good movie or catching up on the latest news with his children.

Most importantly, Damaso loved to laugh and always greeted everyone with a smile. He was affectionately known to his children and grandchildren as "Papo." Papo was a gentle and soft spoken man with a huge heart. He was selfless and kind. He was truly a family man, and an incredible role model to all of his children and grandchildren. We will all miss Papo very much.

Damaso is preceded in death by his first wife, Yolanda Carbellido; daughter, Elizabeth Carbellido and granddaughter, Georgina Rodriguez. He is survived by his wife, Isabel C. Carbellido; his children: Damaso H. Carbellido Jr. and wife, Eloisa; Yvonne Carbellido Rodriguez and husband, George; Sandra Wisse and husband, John of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren (Joshua, Cameron, Ivalisse, Anthony, JT, and Haven); great grandchildren (Leo and Geo); many nieces and nephews, along with countless wonderful friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8th beginning at 3:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough.

On Monday, October 9th at 10:00 AM, a Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1710 Clower Street with entombment to follow in San Fernando II Mausoleum.
