Obituary for David H. Gonzalez, Sr.

August 30, 1945 - January 10, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 72

...he regularly helped family and friends ...

David H. Gonzalez Sr. went to meet his ''Boss" on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the age of 72. He was a lifelong resident of San Antonio who was born on Aug. 30, 1945.

He was a former student and ardent supporter of Central Catholic High School who afterward served proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to December 1970.

He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a traveling brother. He was initiated in 1974 and graduated from the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee in 1978. He was an active Union organizer who served as business manager of IBEW Local 60 in San Antonio for six years and retired in 2007. In retirement, he regularly helped family and friends with electrical needs, never one to say no, despite whatever he might have been doing.

A devoted parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen church for 37 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was an extremely generous, considerate and kind person who always felt he had been very blessed by God and wanted to pass it forward.

He was a loyal newspaper reader who everyday played Jumble, read the obituaries and felt a connection with reporters, particularly those who covered politics. He was a yellow-dog Democrat who couldn't help but talk passionately about politics.

A beloved father and grandfather, he is survived by his loving and adoring children Jean P. Gonzalez (Wendy), Angelique M. Gonzalez, and David H. Gonzalez Jr. (Jennifer), and his grandchildren Donovan, Arianna, Sofia, Liam Gonzalez and siblings Beatrice Saloma and Manuel Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Gonzalez and Manuel Gonzalez, Sr., and his aunt, Maria Rosas, and his beloved brother, Danny Gonzalez.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Rosalie Aguilar for taking care of him for the last several years.

A rosary will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 at 7 PM at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church at 1710 Clower. Doors open at 5 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at the same church on January 20, 2018 at 10 AM, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at 17501 Nacogdoches Road.
