Obituary

Delight Tillotson
November 16, 1929- May 6, 2018
Mrs. Delight Tillotson passed away on Sunday May 6, 2018. She was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on November 16, 1929. Delight graduated from Nashua High School in 1947, Columbia University in 1952 and received her Master of Science in nursing from UT Austin in 1974. Mrs. Tillotson was a resident of San Antonio since 1974. She was preceded in death by her husband David Tillotson Jr. She is survived by four children: son David and wife Wanda; son Mark and wife Susie; daughter Laura and husband Tony; daughter Wendy and husband Dan. She also has eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Delight's life had two distinct, memorable phases. Early in her marriage, as her husband served on active military duty all over the United States and Asia, she sustained her nursing skills through numerous jobs while simultaneously shepherding the family through numerous new duty locations. During these times she provided the close support sons and daughters needed as they coped with always changing social situations; served as the sparkplug for family outings and trips; and was a leader in the military family community. [Author's note: if your mother is the school nurse, seeking sick days without real illness is not an option.]

Following her husband's departure from active duty, Delight focused her professional nursing career on education. She pursued an advanced degree and began to teach nurses, first at San Antonio College and then at UT Health San Antonio School of Nursing 1975- 1994, ending her career as the Assistant Dean. She worked actively to encourage students to enter nursing and advance their careers. Delight had enough impact on students that as she coped with medical issues later in life, she would go to a facility and someone on staff would know and admire her, or the instructor who was bringing students to the facility, would remember her with fondness and respect. For an educator, there is no higher praise.

After her retirement, she became as enthusiastic a grandmother as she had been a mother, supporting and encouraging her grandchildren to spread their wings and try new experiences. She was active in the Woman's Club of San Antonio and her grandchildren participated in Fiesta and Christmas in the Mansion club events. Always a traveler, she crossed the country to visit family members from coast to coast. She traveled internationally too; a grandson went with her to a granddaughter's wedding in Wales and her niece accompanied her on a trip to Greece that fulfilled a long-standing dream of visiting her father's homeland.

The funeral service will be a private Graveside at the Tillotson Gravesite at Woodlawn Cemetery, 101 Kinsley St, Nashua, New Hampshire zip 03060
