Obituary

Surrounded by loved ones, Roland A. Perez, age 54, was welcomed into Heaven early Monday morning, August 20, 2018 in San Antonio, Texas.

Roland was born October, 23, 1963 on the South side of San Antonio. Growing up, he was involved and excelled in numerous sports and activities, and was known to be a loving son, brother, and friend.

Roland is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years Rose Perez; daughters, Cassondra Rose Longoria, Desiree June Perez & boyfriend, Matthew Palacios, son, Roland Christopher Perez; grandchildren, Ariana Rose Johnson, Kaysean Wade Johnson, Olivia Rose Palacios & Noah Alexander Palacios; parents, Gilbert & Dolores Perez, brother, Gilbert Perez & his wife, Ernestina Perez, sisters, Leticia Garcia, Cynthia Martinez, & their husbands Louie Garcia and Salvador Martinez, in addition to dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Roland loved his career as a San Antonio Police Detective and took pride in his work every day for the 21 years that he spent with SAPD. Prior to his service with SAPD, he spent 4 years of his career with the Bexar County Sheriff's Department as a Sheriff's Deputy. In addition to these achievements, he served in the U.S. Airforce for 4 years. In his life, Roland was a leader as well as a servant, a loving and supportive husband, a devoted father, loyal friend and devout Christian. Roland had a passion for golf and fishing, was proud to coach his children's sports teams, and always looked forward to football season. He took pride in his yard and trees, and enjoyed running and biking.

When Roland was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer in 2014, he persevered through the illness and was in remission in the later part of 2015. Roland was later diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome in October of 2017, prompting the need to receive blood and platelet transfusions regularly. In April of 2018, Roland received a bone marrow transplant from a generous donor. While the transplant was initially a success, he was later diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Roland remained courageous throughout the hardships he endured, and fought until his last breath. While he will be missed dearly by family and friends, they take comfort knowing that he is no longer in pain and in his eternal resting place with the Lord.
