Obituary

Doris Kellam Langley passed away September 7, 2019 after enjoying a full and rewarding life. She leaves behind a loving family rich with memories and tall tales that will last forever.

Doris was born in Robstown, Texas on January 28, 1922 to Otis and Veda Kellam. Her father was the Postmaster of Robstown and was appointed during the depression by Franklin Delano Roosevelt after a nomination by Lyndon Johnson. She was a proud graduate of Robstown High School and always referred to herself as a true "Cotton Picker," the mascot of the school. She attended Texas A&I, now known as The University of Texas, Kingsville.

Doris was married to Ralph Langley for over 60 years, and they had two beloved daughters, Janis Lynne and Nancy Ann. Ralph and Doris had a true partnership, and their family bond was a marvelous example to all who knew them.

Doris enjoyed a fulfilling life of social and community service and was a long-time member of Alamo Heights Methodist Church.
Doris loved to entertain and spend time with her family and friends. Her parties often ended with Doris at the piano leading the group in singing hymns and other well-known songs. For decades, Doris and Ralph joined a group of longtime friends each Friday night for cocktails and Mexican food at Oak Hills La Fonda. Each Christmas Eve, a large crowd would gather at the Langley house to celebrate the holiday. The evening always included a rousing holiday sing-along.
Doris was preceded in death by husband, Ralph Langley; sister, Gladys Jean; and daughters, Janis Langley and Nancy Langley Wilson. She leaves behind granddaughters, Tracey Walling (Ben) and Rebecca Jackson (Todd); and great-grandchildren, Ella and Ainsley Walling, and Coleman and Miles Jackson; and son-in-law, Greg Lakin and his daughter, Courtney (Clint) and children. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces, Patsy Garven (Jack), Linda Niemeyer (Edgar), and Kay Morrison (Bob) and their families.

The family wishes to recognize and thank the team of caregivers who assisted Doris in her later years. These include Dominga, Janet, Katherine, and Marie. These faithful women were with Mrs. Langley for many years and the family is eternally grateful for the kindness they showed to Doris.

The family will receive friends at Porter Loring, 1101 McCullough Avenue, on Thursday, September 19th, from 5-7pm. The funeral will be in the Garden Chapel at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 E Basse Road, on Friday, September 20th at 10am, with a private family burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ralph Langley Elementary School with checks made out to Ralph Langley Elementary School and mailed to: Langley Elementary 14185 Bella Vista Place, San Antonio, TX 78253.
