DOROTHY CASTLE REED
March 17, 1924 - January 21, 2018

Dorothy Castle Reed passed away from natural causes peacefully at home with her family on January 21, 2018. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 17, 1924 to Bessie Bell and Arthur Taylor Castle.
She was proceeded in death by parents; and siblings, Arthur Taylor Castle and Frances Koch.
Dorothy was survived by her husband, Edward Horatio Reed; children, Rebecca Evans Waugh, Nancy Reed Smith, Edward Maxwell Reed and wife Peggy Ann Dunn, Colleen Reed Bragg and husband Jerry Bragg; grandchildren: Richard Evans, Russell Evans, Brett Riefler and wife Amanda Riefler, Eric Margozewitz, Cara Wright and husband Jeffrey Wright, John Reed, Matthew Reed, Preslee Pardo and husband Jonathon Pardo, Kathryn Reed, Wiley Patton and Ayla Patton; great-grandchildren, Olivia Wright, Dutch Riefler, Preston Wright and Emily Riefler; and sister, Marjorie Weatherford.
Dorothy was devoted to her 4 children and, husband Ed of 64 years. She was active in the community, PTA, and the church. She taught Sunday School at Parkhill's Baptist Church and also participated on various committees there.
Dorothy and Ed traveled across the United States, Alaska and Canada in their RV and toured parts of Europe and the Holy Land.
She was an accomplished seamstress making most of her family's clothes in the early years and continued sewing later in life as well.
Dorothy was the family photographer and videographer. Our life growing up is documented in hours and hours of film that she took throughout the years.
She was a talented Gardner with an amazing vegetable and rose garden. She planted fig trees, peach trees and canned and pickled when she found the time.
Our Mother loved nature and birds, raising various rare finches which after years of multiplying donated to the San Antonio Zoo.
She cared for elderly family members and friends until the end of their life. Many of whom she has reunited with now that she has entered the heaven that she was so looking forward to.
We're going to miss this beautiful Women and will never forget all the love she taught us by simply being our role model. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2018, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
