Obituary for Dudley Martin Hair

July 17, 1935 - October 2, 2017
Spring Branch, Texas | Age 82

Dudley Martin Hair, died peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness on Monday, October 2, 2017 in San Antonio, TX, age 82. He was born on July 17, 1935 to Marion and Annie Rose Hair, and was a lifelong San Antonio resident. The Hair family's roots run deep in San Antonio, as his ancestors donated land that the Mission Espada was built on. Dudley graduated from Central Catholic High School, afterwards he attended San Antonio College before joining the workforce due to his father's passing.

His father and all his brothers were pilots and flew out of Stinson Airport. Dudley had a love of aircraft and became an accomplished pilot at a very young age. Dudley followed his family's legacy by becoming a pilot. He was a dedicated employee and flew many years for Tobin Aerial Services as an aerial mapping pilot as well as a personal pilot for the Tobin Family. He flew for their surveying and mapping works in the Central Texas area. His work plotted many areas that serve as a basis for many common maps of Central Texas. Dudley also did aerial mapping services all over the USA.

As a young boy and a grown man Dudley's favorite place to spend his time was at their family home on the channel in Port Aransas, TX. He had a great love and appreciation for the water and was an avid fisherman. Port Aransas truly was his happy place. He also enjoyed his time spent with his family on his land just outside of Cotulla, TX.

Dudley was single until the age of 54 when he met the love of his life, widow Darlene Griffin. They wed several years later when he was 62. Darlene brought her large family into their marriage. Many men would have run from the thought of this. Dudley accepted, cherished and loved her family and considered them all his own from the beginning. He was an extremely generous and loving man with a kind heart. He had a twinkle in his eye and a warm inviting smile for all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

Dudley was preceded in death by his father, Marion Pluma Hair and mother, Annie Rose Trueheart Hair; sister, Emilie Hair; brothers, Marion and Johnny Hair.
