Obituary

Lt. Col. Edward A. Willming, USAF Ret., died on September 14, 2017. Born on October 30, 1932, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of the Rev. Charles B. & Winifred Willming. Ed graduated from the Springville, IA High School, in 1950 & Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA with a BA in 1954. He entered the Air Force in 1955 & had an extensive career with single engine pilot training at Hondo, Texas and Greenville, Mississippi then Avionics school in Denver, Colorado. He completed his master's degree while stationed at Ramey AFB in Puerto Rico. His various assignments included the 15th A.F., SAC's 72nd Bomb Wing, ROTC instructor at Kansas State University, a tour to Korat, Thailand as the 388 Avionics Maintenance Commander, Tech Training at Randolph AFB, the I.G. team, and Wing/Base Asst. Deputy Commander at Randolph AFB. Ed retired from the Air Force in 1982 after 25 years of active military service.

Ed was married to Wiladene (Willie) Hoggard in 1952 and were parents of two children, Douglas Edward and Sandra Lynn. He was always first and foremost a family man who enjoyed his home and cherished his family. Favorite hobbies included racquetball, golf, music and restoring classic cars. Ed was also, a connoisseur of a great chocolate shake! He volunteered 15 years as an Ambassador at Silverhorn Golf Club.

A member of First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, he served on the worship committee and was a member of the traditional chancel choir and chair of the organ selection committee that brought Jae Ha to FPC.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his step-sister, Ruth Jo Penner of Marion, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Willie; son, Doug (Kathe) of San Antonio; daughter Sandra (Don) Shelley of Sachse, Texas and 5 grandchildren: Kimberly, Wendy and Cody Willming, Sarah Shelley (Roland IV) Sigler and Scott (Shelby) Shelley; one great grandson, Roland Sigler V; Also a brother, the Rev. C.O. (Vernelle) Willming of Keizer, Oregon and a sister, Virginia Barcroft of Phoenix, Arizona.

Special thanks to Generation HHC & Hospice, esp. Clint, Vangie and Felix, that provided comfort to Ed and Willie during his final days.
