Obituary

Edward Hamner was born in San Antonio, Texas on June second, nineteen hundred fifty-six (as he would say) and passed from his earthly body at the age of 61 on Saturday, January 13 at home with his loved ones, following a twenty-month battle with ampullary/pancreatic cancer.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents William Villarreal Hamner and Blanche Valadez Hamner, his sister Blanche Rose Hamner and his brother William Villarreal Hamner Jr whom he loved dearly.

Edward reluctantly leaves behind his soulmate and wife of 39 years Janet Hamner, three daughters whom he loved dearly and was fiercely proud of: Jennifer Rose Hamner Romo (husband Ric), Charlotte Hamner Nagy (husband Roy), Carrie Janell Hamner (fiancé Robert), one four-legged son Buddy, three grandchildren whom he adored Madison Nagy, Athena Nagy, Matteo Vecchio, three siblings Henry Hamner, Della Farmer, Charlie Hamner and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Edward enlisted in the Air Force as a young man and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant when his enlistment ended. He then worked for several insurance companies in San Antonio for many years before becoming self-employed.

Edward will be remembered for his love of his family, his unconventional ways, humor, honesty, spontaneity, quick wit, beautiful voice accompanied by his acoustic guitar, love of reading and learning, super heroes, oldies music, backyard bbq's, big ideas/dreams and his numerous collections. Over these last months, he showed the strength and courage of a true warrior and became our very own super hero and Jedi master.

The family would like to thank Janet's employer TAVHealth for their incredible support during his entire illness, Charlotte's USAA family; and Vitas Healthcare for providing him comfort in his final months, in particular Chris Johnson MD, Carrie Martinez, RN and Mary Rodriguez, LVN.

Pallbearers are Ric Romo, Roy Nagy, Robert Vecchio, Guillermo Hamner, Mark Hamner and Richard Dannevik. Honorary pallbearer is Roger Cabico with whom he shared a special and crazy friendship for the past 12 years.
