Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Anne Roiz

July 21, 1931 - August 14, 2018
Baytown, Texas | Age 87

Elizabeth Anne Herber Roiz (Betty Anne) was born 7/21/31 in Austin, TX. She was the eldest of five children born to Fred C Herber and Elizabeth Burkhardt Herber. Siblings are Fred Jr., Martin, Johnny, and June (Muth). The family lived in Austin and Houston before moving to San Antonio, and eventually settled in Alamo Heights. Betty Anne graduated from Alamo Heights High School, which is now Cambridge Elementary. She attended Trinity University on a music scholarship, while playing the flute. She graduated from Trinity with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Biology, and was an accomplished artist in traditional mediums, such as oil, watercolor, and pastel.

Her artistic passion and talent were reflected in her adult hobbies of needlepoint, quilting, sewing, and creating miniature scale room boxes. Betty Anne was married to the love of her life, Richard Roiz, for 29 years, before he preceded her in death. She has two daughters, Laurie Roiz and Angela Homan (husband Keith), and a granddaughter, Katerine Getchell (husband Jim). When Laurie's daughter Katerine was born, Betty Anne became known as "Mutti". Mutti also had a fondness for yellow cats, and will be sorely missed by "Sneaky Pete".

Betty Anne was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church. She designed and coordinated the creation of Christ Lutheran's needlepoint kneelers and altar and pulpit frontals. At Christ Lutheran she was a Steven minister, a SAMM shelter volunteer, and a member of the church quilting group. Many Lutheran World Relief quilts were donated through the combined efforts of this group.

Her last nine years were spent in Baytown, Texas living near Angela and Keith and sister June. She continued to expand her art endeavors with the addition of adult coloring and making beautiful edible sugar flowers of all varieties. She enjoyed baking and decorating cupcakes and cookies. Her last batch of cookies was finished a few short hours before her passing on 8/14/18. "Mutti" was smart, generous, kind, and loving. She was loved very, very much.

Visitation will be from 2pm to 4pm on Sun., Aug. 19, 2018, at Porter Loring Mortuary. A Celebration of Life service will be at Christ Lutheran Church, 6720 Broadway, on Mon., Aug. 20, 2018, at 10am. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
