Obituary

Flora Elizabeth (Beth) Ryan (Rankin) was welcomed by her parents, Henry Grady Ryan and Anna May Butler on March 3, 1927 into their family home in Norman, Oklahoma. She died on Mother's Day, May 10, 2020.

A Sooner born, she grew up a few blocks from the campus of the University of Oklahoma which became her playground. Years later, OU awarded her a Bachelor and two Master of Arts degrees along with a Phi Beta Kappa Key.

In 1947, Beth married the Reverend John Karl Rankin in Norman, Oklahoma's McFarlin Methodist Church and joined him in his Methodist ministry. After ten years in mission work in East Texas where their two sons, Philip Henry and John Mark Rankin were born, they moved to Oak Park, Illinois. Beth received a Federal Title II Fellowship to Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois where she earned a MALS degree. She worked over twenty-five years as a media specialist and teacher before retiring with her husband to San Antonio, Texas.

Beth joined the Jefferson United Methodist Church where she was active in the choir and served as president of the United Methodist Women for a few years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John Karl Rankin; parents; brothers, Henry Grady Ryan II, M.D., John Butler Ryan, D.D.S., sister, Nancy Ryan Craig, M.D.

Beth is survived by her sons, Philip Henry Rankin and Dr. John Mark Rankin/ Audra Menconi; grandsons, Andrew Jon Rose-Rankin/Sara Keepman, Nicholas Grady Rose-Rankin/Miyuki Togi, Jake Ryan Rankin; granddaughter, Natalie Michelle Rankin; three great grandchildren, Miya Togi Rose-Rankin, Kaito Togi Rose-Rankin, John Forrest Rose-Rankin and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
