Obituary

Elwin O. Williams passed away at his home on April 23, 2018 at the age of 90. He was born January 13, 1928 in Lillie, Louisiana, to Theron and Amanda Williams. He spent his childhood in Louisiana and East Texas. He was a 1945 graduate of DeRidder High School in DeRidder, Louisiana, and married his sweetheart, Irene Head, in 1946. They remained married over 70 years until her death in 2017.

After serving his military time in Korea, Elwin and Irene settled down in Monroe, Louisiana where Elwin worked as a crop duster and single-engine plane pilot for a short time. He then began a lifelong career with Firestone Tire and Rubber Company until his retirement in 1989. All three of their sons were born in Monroe before Firestone moved the family to Shreveport, Austin and finally, San Antonio. Elwin was a life deacon in the Baptist Church and he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio for over 35 years, then of Woodland Baptist Church for the remainder of his life.

He and Irene were extraordinarily adventuresome, enjoying RVs, boats, and motorcycles over the course of their lives. They traveled countless places around the world and lived a full life together. Elwin was known for his wit, his outgoing personality, and his faith in God.

Elwin is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, and his brother T.J. Williams. He is survived by his three sons, Bruce (Lois) Williams of Waxahachie, Texas, Jerry (Polly) Williams of Bastrop, Texas, and Paul J. Williams of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Sullivan of Arlington, Texas, and Jeremy Williams of Waxahachie, Texas. The family would like to recognize Andrea Vernon for her devotion to and care for both Irene and Elwin through the end years of their lives.

Services will be at Woodland Baptist Church, 15315 Huebner Rd., San Antonio, at Noon on Friday, April 27, 2018, with graveside services to follow at 3pm at Sunset Memorial Park.
