Obituary for Enriqueta T. Hernandez

September 22, 1922 - June 8, 2017
San Antonio, Texas | Age 94

Enriqueta T. Hernandez, at the age of 94 passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Tomas C. Hernandez and Son, Roland Hernandez, Parents, two Sisters from Texas, and Four brothers from California.

Enriqueta was a military wife whose husband served in the USAF and while her husband was deployed overseas she took care of their four children; however, they lived in Dover, Delaware and Mobile, Alabama plus several Air Force Bases in Texas before deciding to make San Antonio their permanent location.

Enriqueta volunteered as a Senior Citizen for St. Jude's Catholic Church for many years registering seniors for their daily lunch, pantry donations and other duties. In her younger years she played bingo, bunco, and was an awesome volleyball player, loved to exercise and swim at the YMCA and was an active member of the PTA for Loma Park Elementary, Harry S. Truman Middle School and Memorial High School in the Edgewood District.

She enjoyed going to church on Sunday, then lunch and a good movie and finally returning to take a nap. Unfortunately, she fell and suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night and transported by ambulance to the University Hospital and it was with a heavy heart that we decided to remove her from life support. Gratitude from the Hernandez Family to the Staff and Nurses in the Intensive Care Unit on the 9th Floor for their kindness and compassion regarding her care during her last two days of her life.

Many thanks to (Diana Trevino, Caregiver) who for over four years of devoted care, companionship, doctor appointments and lots of loving meals we say again with appreciation and gratitude from the Hernandez & Sanchez family.

She is survived by her daughter, Veronica Sanchez and husband Alfred Sanchez, and two sons Arnold Hernandez and wife Anna Marie Hernandez and Michael A. Hernandez. Her five grandchildren Michael A. Hernandez Jr., Patricia Ann Virgen and husband David Virgen Jr., Ashley Rae Sturgill and husband Jack Arthur Sturgill, Andrew Ryan Sanchez and Roland Tomas Hernandez and three great-grandchildren, Thomas Hernandez, Victoria Lee Virgen and Dorothy Abigail Sturgill.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19th beginning at 6:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.

On Tuesday, June 20th at 9:30 AM, a Funeral Service will be held in the chapel at Porter Loring on McCullough with interment to follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
