Obituary

Estella G. Gutierrez
June 23, 1925 – April 12, 2018

Estella Garza Gutierrez entered God's heavenly kingdom on April 12, 2018, at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her mother Juanita Mendoza Garza, father Servando Garza, husband Elias S. Gutierrez and six sisters: Elena, Virginia, Elvira, Eloisa, Alicia and Herlinda. Estella is survived by her children: Sylvia Parrott (James), Richard Gutierrez (Nora), Norma Biayobzcki (Richard) and Dr. Charles Gutierrez (Annie); beloved niece Janie Ortiz; seven grandchildren: Diane Elizondo, Frankie Elizondo, Carlos Elizondo, Brian Biayobzcki, Stephen Gutierrez, Jackie Gutierrez, and Christina Gutierrez; and nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Estella was a life-long resident of San Antonio and graduated from Lanier High School in 1943. She worked during high school as a sales clerk at LaFeria and after graduating worked as a receptionist and medical assistant at a doctor's office. She married Elias Gutierrez on December 24, 1947 and stayed home to raise their children. When her youngest child started school, she became actively involved in the PTA and the community of Prospect Hill. She spent so much time assisting at the local junior high school, she was offered a full-time administrative job with the SAISD and retired after 15 years. Estella (mom, grandma, aunt) was the matriarch of our family and will be lovingly remembered for her wisdom, strength, love, and the pride she took in her family. Although she will be greatly missed, she instilled in her children a strong faith in the Lord, so we give thanks for being blessed with her in our lives and the reassurance that she "shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Landon Ridge Alamo Ranch for their kindness and compassion. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary.
