Obituary for Evelyn J. Kinard

January 27, 1927 - March 9, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 91

Evelyn Janet Kinard died peacefully on March 9, 2018 and was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior at the age of 91. She was born in Lakeland, Florida and grew up on a farm where she learned the value of hard work, family and sacrifice from her loving parents. She joined the Unites States Nurses Corp and attended nursing school in Tampa, Florida. While stationed in San Antonio, she met the love of her life a young pilot, Herbert L. Kinard. They married shortly thereafter and to that marriage they had three children: Roxanne, Gary and Rhonda.

Evelyn was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a distinguished career in nursing in San Antonio while working primarily at Santa Rosa Medical Center in the intensive care unit and surgical recovery room. She cared for many patients over her 30-year nursing career. She was also an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting landscapes, stills and portraits in water color and oil-based mediums. However, the moments she enjoyed most were with family and friends. She was a master at preparing huge meals for the family and making it look effortless. She loved sports, the Spurs, and the Florida Gators. She lived a life full of love and showed kindness to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by all of those who were privileged enough to know her. She particularly enjoyed the friends she made and the years she spent living at the Army Residence Community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Randolph and Lena Crawford and her husband of 63 years, Herbert L. Kinard. Evelyn is survived by her younger sister Catherine Rutledge of Trenton, Florida; her children: Roxanne Kruczek and husband Michael, Gary Kinard and wife Nancy and Rhonda Haese and husband Robbie; five grandchildren Cory Kinard, Nicholas Kinard (Laura), Jennifer Hernandez (Robert), John Bruce (Samantha), and Michelle Armstrong (Steve) and six great grandchildren: Johnny, Evelyn and Jasper Bruce, Ozzie Hernandez, and Suren and Austin Armstrong.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Army Residence Community and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care and support of Evelyn.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough Avenue.
