Obituary

Evelyn Maxine Greene passed away on Thursday, September 27. Born in San Antonio on February 13, 1924, she attended Brackenridge High School, Class of 1942. Our mother had a strong sense of right, wrong, and justice, the champion of the underdog.

She had an extraordinary singing voice, performing in the 1930's and 40's. This same lovely voice sang lullabies to her sons and grandchildren in later years. Mom spent most of her life within the military, both as a daughter and a wife. While stationed in England, she developed her well-known appreciation for good teas and many things British.

In her own career, Mom exceled, retiring from civil service at Fort Sam Houston. She never retired from her commitment to serving others, by later volunteering at Fisher House and founding "The Gadabouts" social club at Air Force Village II.

Mom was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Verdie Gilliam, her husband, Leaward Greene, and her brother Dale. She is survived by their sons Vernon (Deborah Monahan), Geoffrey (Carol), and Mark (Dani); and grandchildren Christopher, David (Michelle Molleda); Samuel (Kseniya Meleshko); and Rachael (Doug Roth); also, great-grand daughters Emily and Kaylee Greene. In lieu of flowers donations in her honor can be made to Air Force Villages Charitable Foundation for the Widow's Fund.
