Col. Frank R. Samas, USA (Ret.), age 76 of San Antonio, left this life on November 9, 2016. He was born in Chicago where he met the love of his life, Dorothy. They were married after college graduation and shortly thereafter, Frank was called to active duty and together, they entered Army life. His various Army assignments included the Berlin Brigade, three Pentagon tours, Viet Nam, Korea and various assignments in the Washington, D.C. area, as well as Fort Sam Houston. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, 5 awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, 2 awards of the Joint Service Commendation Medal, 2 awards of the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement. He was most proud of receiving the John J. Pershing Award for having the highest grade point average in his Command and General Staff college class and obtaining his MBA Degree at night from George Washington University while continuing at his duty station during the day. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic church and was a 3rd and 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked every BBQ from 1983 until June of 2003 when his medical treatment made it impossible.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Samas; children: Karen Regner (Glenn), Jeffrey Samas, Mark Samas (Jennifer); brother, Gene Samas (Ruth). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Regner and Rebecca and Rachel Samas. No man or woman enjoyed or loved their grandchildren more than Frank.
