Obituary for Frederick C. Jurman

February 9, 1942 - February 28, 2018
San Antonio, Texas | Age 76

MSgt. Frederick C. Jurman, USAF (Ret.) passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the age of 76 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on February 9, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio to Frederick and Myrtle Jurman. After graduating from High School, Fred joined the Air Force to see the world. And with Military Intelligence, he did indeed travel to Japan and Thailand and Cyprus and Germany. He and his family enjoyed a stay at Chicksands AFB, Bedfordshire, England before settling in San Antonio. While in the military, Fred received many awards, including the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the Air Force, Fred worked for City Public Service and QVC before starting his own business Settin' Pretty: selling Canine Art. Settin' Pretty gave Fred and his wife, Linda an excuse to travel to England several times, looking for new artists to represent. Fred was rightly proud of the success of Settin' Pretty and became an expert on Canine Art. Fred loved dogs, especially Irish Setters and was active with Irish Setter Rescue, rehoming over 30 rescue dogs. One of Fred's favorite roles was serving as the Green King in the annual Christmas Pageant: a role he took quite seriously, seriously enough to set aside his day to day portrayal of Grumpy. Fred had a great love of all things Grumpy and was happy to try to convince you that this was his true nature. Those of us who knew him well, knew that he was really an "old softie" under his Grumpy frown. Fred also dubbed himself the Cupcake King, baking cupcakes for the ladies at Alpha Home. Fred insisted that the ladies only came to Sewing on Mondays at Alpha Home because of his cupcakes. Fred loved his grandchildren and was very proud of all of their accomplishments, bragging to anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed.

Frederick is survived by his wife, Linda Jurman; daughter, Kathleen Williamson and husband Adrion; grandchildren, Jada and Tiana; Linda's daughters, Mea Riddle, husband Russ and their children, Evan and Emily; Kathy Lane, husband Jay and their children, Max, Arch and Ryn; Kathleen's mother, Patricia Jurman and extended family and friends.
