Fremon Leander Myers, MSgt, USAF, Ret., age 84, passed away on November 26, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary Ann (Smith) Myers; two brothers, Dean and Lairy E. Myers, and a sister, Ramona Myers.
He is survived by his two sons, Nathan D. and wife Sharon, and Randolph A. and wife Wanda; four grandchildren: David M., Richard A., Christopher J. and Catherine E. Myers. He has a sister, Arthie Dunkle of Palmyra, Missouri, and a sister-in-law, Anita Myers of Charleston, South Carolina.
Fremon was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on January 22, 1932 to Arthur L. Myers and Cumon (Hicks) Myers, both of whom also preceded him in death. He grew up in Pensacola, Florida, from age 9 until he entered the Air Force in 1950 at age 17. He served in both the Korean Conflict in 1951-1952, and Vietnam in 1967-1968. After returning to the states from Korea in 1952, he was subsequently assigned to Ladd AFB, near Fairbanks, Alaska. He served in Alaska for three years, and when he returned to the lower 48, he was stationed at Smoky Hill AFB at Salina, Kansas. It was the following year while stationed
there, that he met and married the love of his life, Rosemary.
He retired from the Air Force in 1972 and attended San Antonio College for two years, receiving his Associates Degree in the fall of 1974. He obtained a position at USAA while attending college, first as a technical writer, and later as a computer systems manager. During his years at USAA, he was a member of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning Engineers), and published the local chapter's ASHRAE Handbook for six years. He retired from
USAA in 1992.
After retirement, he began to visit his far-flung family, from Charleston, South Carolina, to Los
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
